Taxis, primarily operated by private companies, are subject to general rules applicable to all taxis. For example, taxi companies must adhere to maximum fares imposed by law.
Official taxis must be black and have a checkerboard band in black and yellow mango on all four doors with two Iris symbols representing the Brussels-Capital Region. They also have a rooftop light called a 'spoutnik' with a black and yellow mango checkerboard pattern.
Maximum fares are capped at 200% of the minimum fares.
Grand Luxe taxis are less than 10 years old from their first circulation, have a wheelbase of 2.90m or more, and a new purchase cost of at least €60,500 (excluding options and taxes).
Maximum fares are capped at 500% of the minimum fares.
Ceremony taxis are services provided by reservation for government-approved ceremonies.
The flat-rate contribution for collective taxi rides authorized by the Government is set at €6.00 per user per ride. Currently, the only authorized service is Collecto.
Obligation to Provide a Receipt :
The driver is required to give you a printed receipt (not handwritten) at the end of your ride. This receipt includes the taxi number, fare, and a range of useful information in case of a complaint or lost item.
